History of Nefro
The Chief Psychopomp
Nefro was born in the Akhron universe before the collapse of the Chronoverse. He is the son of Yadabaq and Yamauat. He is a pyschopomp that was born by the request of his mother to her brother, his father, to serve as guide for all who would leave his realm to join her realm.
His birth angered Nabû because he was once the Chief Messenger of his mother, Yamauat. However, when Nefro was born it displaced him from his role. Nabû would cling even stronger to his father Marduk after this which lead to the evangelical work on earth.
Benevolent Death
As Ǎzarēl (also spelled Azrael, Azrāʾīl, Ezrā’ël, and Izrāʾīl), his name meant “God has helped.” He became known as the benevolent angel of death and acts as a psychopomp for the heavens. He is responsible for coordinating the Reapers who transport the souls of the deceased after their death.
With him he has been seen to carry a scroll concerning the fate of mortals, recording and erasing their names at their birth and death. He most commonly dwells in the third heaven when he does visit Šamym. However, when he is in Qur, he is governor over all the lands of Wilon.
A God of Death
When the Greeks rose to power he would become known as Kharôn (also spelled as Kharon), a psychopomp and ferryman of the underworld. He carries the souls of those who have been given funeral rites across the rivers Acheron and Styx, which separate the worlds of the living and the dead. The dead who could not pay the fee, and those who had received no funeral rites, had to wander the near shores of the Styx for one hundred years before they were allowed to cross the river. He also ferried the living mortals Heracles and Aeneas to the underworld and back again. By the Romans he was called Charon.
