History of Kebechet
The Spirits of the Dead
Kebechet was born before in the realm of Qur before the collapse of the Chronoverses and the Great Exile. She is the daughter Anubis and his consort, Anput. She is a goddess, a deification of embalming liquid. Her name means cooling water.
She is referred to as a serpent who “refreshes and purifies” the pharaoh. Kebechet gives water to the spirits of the dead while they waited for the mummification process to be complete. She was related to mummification process where she would fortify the body against corruption, so it would stay fresh for reanimation by the deceased’s ka.
The Snake Goddess
Kebechet was the goddess of freshness and purification. She was known as the “wandering goddess” or the “lost child”. Kebechet was often in the form of a snake, sometimes with a body of stars. She also took the form of a gorgon and had a head of a snake.
Sometimes she took the form of an ostrich, linking her to the goddess of Ma’at who represented justice and balance in the universe and was involved in the judgement of the dead. Her dwelling was the Hall of Truth where she would bring drink to the souls of the dead in the afterlife.
